First visiting in 1974 with Clifton and Albert Tucker, Whiteley soon felt an affinity with Balinese culture. The lush tropical setting represented a relief from the chaos of city living, addiction and fame. The Garden in Sanur, Bali is an image of bliss. Framed by a window, among Whiteleys favoured motifs, is a thatching garden, spindly trees rearing over flowers, grasses and ferns. Despite
